No matter the career path, the Division of Nutritional Sciences believes that the art of successful grant writing is a vital skill for all DNS graduates. We offer a capstone course, NUTR 550, where students proceed through the entire grant preparation and submission process.
Students in NUTR 550 work with DNS faculty members who are highly successful grant writers to create their own NIH grant proposal. Students also learn to constructively evaluate and review grants and receive training in responsible conduct of research and scientific ethics. Our alumni tell us this is one of the most valuable courses taken during their graduate career!
Students also gain valuable grant writing experience by participating in the Margin of Excellence Research Grant competition.
