In 2011, with support from Kraft Foods and the North American branch of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI), the Division launched its inaugural Regulatory Affairs Summit. This exciting event is held in Washington, D.C., and was developed specifically for students interested in learning more about creating food and nutrition policy, regulatory affairs, and career opportunities in policy or regulatory affairs in government or industry. Students meet with top officials from FDA-CFSAN, USDA-CNPP, FNS-WIC, the National Academies, and the Congressional Research Service for the Library of Congress. “I realized that I've been trapped in my science bubble and never took the time to think of the process of how what we do in a lab will eventually be translated into recommendations for the public. This trip opened my eyes to what goes on behind the scenes and definitely sparked my interest in a career in nutrition policy.” - Krystle Zuniga, PhD Candidate
“Participation in the Regulatory Summit really opened my eyes (gave me a good perspective) into a career in Nutrition Policy and working for Government agencies.” -Rose Ann Mathai, PhD Candidate
